Description:

Ajax Amsterdam is perhaps the most famous football talent factory in the world. Jairo Riedewald is another one coming out of that factory who should make his name in the big time. He is a very versatile player who can play in any position in attack and midfield. He is most often seen at center back or left back, but he has also played as a defensive midfielder, as well as wing position and attacking midfield position. This season he has made 3 appearances in the Jong Ajax team which plays in the Jupiler League, which is the 2nd division below Eredivisie. He also played 4 times in the UEFA Youth League. His skills impressed Frank De Boer who called him up to the first team for a cup match against Ijsselmeervogel. 3 days later something which can be described as groundbreaking in his career has occured. For his league debut, he came off the bench to score a brace in a 2-1 win over Roda JC Kerkrade. The teenager was introduced by Frank De Boer with 10 minutes to go, replacing Christian Poulsen, and turned out to be a definitive game changer – he scored in the 88th and 92nd minutes in a remarkable comeback. After this game, Jairo is certain to get more chances and he could even become a regular in the first team. It is also worthy of note that despite being just 17, he is a first XI player in the Dutch U-19 national team.

Quotes:

“It was Jairo’s task to push forward but that he would pop up in the penalty box we certainly did not expect.”

(Frank de Boer – manager of Ajax after Jairo’s dream debut against Roda)
