Mario Pasalic joined Hajduk Split’s youth academy in early 2006. He first gained wider recognition in the 2011–2012 season, scoring 17 goals for the U-17 team, despite being a midfielder. Last year during the pre-season, he was diagnosed with a Staphylococcus infection, because of which he was forced to miss the first half of the 2012–2013 season. He recuperated, however, and made his first team league debut on 14 April 2013 in a match against HNK Cibalia, when he entered for Ivan Vukovic in the 90th minute. During the current season he became a first team regular and a central figure in midfield of “The pride of Dalmatia”. In September 2013, he has scored two goals in a famous Croatian “Eternal Derby” against Dinamo Zagreb. He is on the radar of many good European clubs including Juventus, Eintracht, Lazio and Catania. It is also worth noting that he has represented Croatia on many age levels and now is a member of U-19 team.

“These are the moments that are hard to forget. A week ago I played in juniors and then scored two goals in the derby . That all happened so fast. I had the offer from Italy and I repeat that I am glad I stayed.”
