Mosquito is a powerful striker who is regarded as one of the most talented players in Brazil at the moment. Atletico signed him from Vasco da Gama which caused friction between the two clubs, and resulted in the player being banned from some U-17 games at club level. He already made his debut at senior level – on 6th February 2014 in a Copa Libertadores match against Sporting Cristal in which he replaced Paulinho Dias after 70 minutes. It is worth mentioning that during this game youngster scored during penalty shoot-out. He was named the best player in Sudamericano U-15, as well as finishing the same competition as top scorer with 11 goals. Two years later he participated in FIFA U-17 World Cup 2013, but Mosquito’s side were knocked out by Mexico at the quarterfinal stage after losing a penalty shootout 11-10, in which the striker scored his side’s first but dramatically missed Brazil’s last, decisive attempt.
“One day we might be like Bebeto and Romario or Ganso and Neymar, but right now our only job is to develop and grow because we are still young.”
