League summary:

Championnat National 2012/2013: 9 matches/1 goal (FC Metz)

Ligue 2 2013/2014 (ongoing): 10 matches/0 goals (FC Metz)

FC Metz might be a second division club, but their youth academy is well known all around the world. Its graduates include Emmanuel Adebayor, Miralem Pjanic, Robert Pires or Louis Saha. Maxwel Cornet is a player who also comes from that academy and might very well follow in the footsteps of his predecessors named here. He made his debut in the first team in 2012-13 season, in a cup match against Nice on 6th January 2013. His Ligue 2 debut came 8 months later – on 2nd August 2013, he played against Naval in a 1-0 victory. He replaced Yeni N’Gbakoto after 79 minutes. This season he has already got a ton of experience, having played 10 games, where he showed what he is made of. It is very likely that he will become a regular in the FC Metz first team. He is Ivorian by descent, but he represents France at U-19 level, having also played for its U-16, U-17 and U-18 national teams.

“Enquiries will also come in for Maxwel Cornet, the 16-year-old starlet. He could be FC Metz’s lottery ticket, after they had the good sense to persuade him to sign a first professional contract last November.”
