League summary:

Primera Division 2013/2014 (ongoing): 2 matches/0 goals (FC Sevilla)

Sevilla’s academy works at full throttle and releases brilliant talents into the world football basically every year. A long list of its pearls include Jose Antonio Reyes, Diego Capel, Jesus Navas or Sergio Ramos. Carlos Fenandez is a current player of that academy who could follow in the footsteps of his great predecessors. Born in Seville, he was connected to Los Nervionenses basically from the very beginning of his football life. As a 17 year old he joined the Sevilla Atletico squad, which is Sevilla’s B team. Good performances in the Segunda Division B were not missed by Unai Emery, who gave the youngster his chance to make a debut in the first team. He came on as a substitute for Piotr Trochowski in a 0-2 home loss against Racing Santander in the Copa del Rey. A few months later, on 2nd March 2014, he made his La Liga debut as a 17-year old, replacing fellow youth graduate Jose Antonio Reyes midway through the second half for a 1-0 win over Real Sociedad at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium. The Spanish press pronounced him as the next wonderkid from Andalusia.

“His career will be meteoric, as it happened to Sergio Ramos, Reyes, Jesus Navas and Capel.”

(Pablo Blanco – director of football at Sevilla)
