Jari Schuurman comes from the Feyenoord academy; the academy which wins the ‘best youth academy of the Netherlands’ award virtually every year. It’s famous for spawning talents such as Jean-Paul Boetius, Jordy Clasie, Bruno Martins Indi or Stefan de Vrij – all players wanted by big clubs in Europe. Jari has done very well in the youth teams and due to that coach Maarten Stekelenburg took him to the UEFA U-17 Championship 2014 in Malta. He scored a hattrick in his second game at the tournament and was a key player in the “Jong Orange” second line. Unfortunately, his team fell to England in the final, but Jari was given the “Golden Boot” with 4 goals, which is a great achievement for a midfielder.
“I have an Ajax name. I am named after former Ajax forward Jari Litmanen despite the fact I am a lifelong Feyenoord supporter and I play for Feyenoord – my team-mates and the trainers tease me sometimes! Litmanen is an Ajax legend and my parents liked him as a footballer player and as a person. They were Litmanen fans.”
