Description:
Mahmoud Dahoud was born in Syria, but moved to Germany when he was a child. In 2010, he joined Borussia Mönchengladbach youth system – one of the best academies in country, famous for having produced many talented players in recent years, such as Roman Neustädter, Marc-André ter Stegen, Patrick Herrmann, Tony Jantschke and Amin Younes. Mahmoud made his first team debut at 28 August 2014 in the Europa League play-offs against FK Sarajevo in a 7-0 home win. He has earned a reguar place in the club’s first-team squad this season and is generally praised for his performances in Bundesliga. He is a regular youth international for Germany, where he started at the U-18 level and currently plays for U-20.
Quotes:
“Born in Syria, but football-schooled in Germany, Dahoud is a talented midfielder who looks set to break through in a Christoph Kramer-less Gladbach team this year. Still a little rough around the edges at 19, the youngster has a fantastic long-range shot on him, and has shown lovely touches of instinctive playmaking in his appearances so far. He isn’t a direct Christoph Kramer replacement, but Dahoud is still figuring out whether he is best in the heart of the midfield or at the top of a diamond. Working under Lucien Favre this season at Gladbach is a perfect step for his development.”
