Ghana’s Objective Amplified – by Anderson Zavala

All of us remember that fantastic Ghana of South Africa 2010, with players like Kevin-Prince Boateng, Asamoah Gyan, Andre Ayew, Sulley Muntari, Kwadwo Asamoah, among other players who were fundamental for the success of the team. They almost reached the semi-final as they narrowly lost to Uruguay in the quarter-final via penalty shootout. Such a heroic performance.

Now we see a promising new generation of Ghanaian footballers like Mohammed Kudus (21, Ajax), Kamaldeen Sulemana (19, Rennes), Kamal Sowah (21, Brugge); and still, they want to convince a couple of players to be more competitive, and prominent examples are Mohammed Salisu (22, Southampton), and Tariq Lamptey (21, Brighton). As the two players mentioned before, more could join the team in the long-term future, academies like Right to Dream are bringing hope for many young talents, and teams like FC Nordsjælland are contributing to that purpose.

In the recent squad list, many u-23 players have been called up, for instance: Abdul Nurudeen (22, Eupen), Montari Kamaheni (21, Ashdod), Edmund Addo (21, Sheriff), Gideon Mensah (23, Bordeaux), Benson Anang (21, Žilina), Stephan Ambrosius (22, Hamburger), Emmanuel Lomotey (23, Amiens), Osman Bukari (22, Nantes), Kwame Poku (20, Peterborough), Felix Afena-Gyan (18, Roma), and many more young players from local leagues such as highly talented Issahaku Abdul Fatawu (17, Dreams FC).

All new talents combined with the experience of some players will be fundamental and interesting to watch.

Future looks brighter and now the opportunity to play in a new World Cup is present, they even have the help of an old friend as Milovan Rajevac, someone with who they shared great moments. Keep it up, Ghana!
