Kofi Jeremy Amoako: Scouting Report by Nene Afadzinu

AGE: 19
HEIGHT: 6’1”
WEIGHT: 77 KG
FOOT: RIGHT
CLUB: VFL WOLFSBURG
NATIONALITY: GERMAN/GHANAIAN

Defensive midfield anchor capable of playing as a centre back. Predominantly right footed but is very comfortable using his left foot. Quite tall for his position and has the knack of physically imposing himself to look even bigger on the pitch.  Not very mobile and struggles to turn at pace. Has a sturdy frame. Not the quickest off the mark but has good recovery pace.

Has secure ball control and a reliable first touch. Highly accurate short to midrange passer with either foot. Prefers to keep possession with safe passes to the open man. Capable of breaking defensive lines with his passing and finding his target from long range. Rarely takes on his man 1v1 but is capable of keeping possession from his opponent with some tidy footwork.  Does not dwell in possession, rarely taking more than three touches before moving the ball on. Seldom gets into shooting positions.

Often plays as the defensive midfield anchor in a 433 but can serve as an auxiliary centre back in a 532. Makes himself available as a passing option and calls for the ball. Needs to scan more often to be aware of his surroundings before receiving possession. Holds his position in front of the defense and does not often make advanced runs off the ball except to serve as an extra option in the buildup. Tends to drop into the defensive line to receive the ball and help start the buildup from the back. Capable of progressing the play using clever give-and-go pass sequences with his teammates. Supports attacks by loitering around the edge of the box.

Confident in the duel with his physical frame providing him the assurance he needs to get stuck in. Rarely goes to ground to win the ball, preferring to press his opponent into turning over possession by jockeying and using his frame to smother the passing lanes. Able to dominate aerially with his height and wins most of his aerial duels, but can contest more. Physically imposing and can bully opponents in and out of possession with his strength. Excellent anticipation, reaction speed, and positioning enable him to read the play and cut out passes or loose balls to make numerous interceptions for his side.

Unflustered in and out of possession with a languid demeanour that occasionally results in careless giveaways. Communicates effectively with his teammates but is not the most vocal of players. Can improve his decision making in and out of possession.

Amoako presses his opponent all the way back to his own box.
