– technique
– ball control
– creativity

– football IQ
– versatility

To improve:
– at this stage, he operates between a striker and a creative role, but his old-school style makes it difficult to integrate seamlessly into most modern tactical systems, as few teams utilize traditional striker duos, and he risks becoming a luxury player suited only to specific setups
– tall with a good body mass ratio, but lacks the physical robustness required for intense midfield duels
– capable of dispossessing opponents and capitalizing on defensive mistakes, but can sometimes be static off the ball and needs to improve his counter-pressing energy
– possesses good top speed but lacks explosiveness over the first few meters
Style of play:
– deep-lying forward
– likes to operate in an attacking partnership, where he is given the freedom to roam in the space behind the main striker
– a superb blend of creator and finisher, capable of both crafting chances for teammates and converting them himself
– enjoys being on the ball and prefers receiving passes to feet rather than making runs in behind the defensive line
– possesses excellent ball striking from mid-range and a wide range of finishing skills, making him a versatile threat in front of goal, whether it’s precise placements, powerful strikes, volleys, or instinctive tap-ins
– elegant with a superb technical capacity, ball control in limited spaces, and first touch while linking up play and making quick one-twos
– his technique, touch, and intelligence let him play fruitfully with his back to the goal/excellent link-up ability
– displays fantastic composure, elegance on the ball, outstanding vision, creativity, and top-tier playmaking skills
– frequently drops deeper to receive the ball and dictate play in the final third
– while not overly explosive, he’s an excellent technical dribbler who gets past players with ease thanks to his footwork and cleverness
– possesses natural leadership qualities and is a vocal presence on the pitch, often guiding teammates and taking responsibility in crucial moments
– able to carry the ball, score, and assist comfortably with his weaker right foot
– strong direct and indirect set-piece taker, capable of delivering pinpoint crosses and scoring spectacular goals from free kicks
– accurate penalty taker

Deket drops deeper and delivers a superb outside-of-the-foot pass to set up an assist.

Description:
Matej Deket is a product of the FK Borac Banja Luka youth academy and is widely regarded as one of the most exciting talents to emerge from Bosnia and Herzegovina in the 21st century—perhaps the most promising since the golden generation of Edin Džeko and Miralem Pjanić. A standout performer at the youth level, he’s expected to make his professional debut sooner rather than later. A regular youth international, Deket has consistently served as a leader in the teams he has represented.

“I can’t say what kind of player I am — I leave that to those who truly know football. I’m proud of both my goals and assists. If I had to point out my strengths, it would be my sense for goal and vision on the pitch.”
