Mathys Tel joined the famous Stade Rennais youth academy from Paris FC in 2020. He is considered to be one of the most talented players of his generation in Europe. Mathys made his professional debut on 15 August 2021 in a 1–1 league draw against Brest. His debut at 16 years and 110 days made him the youngest player to appear in an official match for Rennes, a record which was previously held by Eduardo Camavinga. He also became the 11th-youngest player ever to play in the French Ligue 1.
