Description:

Jorge Meré joined Sporting de Gijón’s youth setup in 2010 from other Asturian club Real Oviedo. He made his senior debut for “Rojiblancos” B team during 2013/2014 campaign, aged 16. On 24 July 2014 he signed a new five-year deal with the club, with a €25 million clause. On 11 April 2015 he made his official debut for the first-team in a 1–1 away draw against Real Zaragoza. He was already linked with several English clubs, including Newcastle United and Manchester City, however, it seems that the best thing for his career at this moment would be to stay and play regularly for Sporting. He has been a youth Spain international for many years – starting at U-15 all the way through U-21, in which the youngest member of the team.
